Artist Ariel Mitnik presents
Dadaist works at the Ben Ami Gallery in Tel Aviv
Curator: Doron Polak
Festive opening: Sunday 27.2.2022 at 20:00
At Ben Ami Gallery, 12 Hahashmal St., Tel Aviv
The new exhibition at the Ben Ami Gallery, a gallery located next to a cafe in the Electric Square in Tel Aviv, brings the audience together with the veteran artist Ariel Mitnik, who has a long-term connection with Israel and is holding a surprise dialogue with the artists of the mythical Dada movement. The beginning of Dada artists' activity took place exactly one hundred years ago at Walter Cafe in Switzerland, so there is nothing more appropriate than presenting the current project in the colorful and so unique space of Ben Ami Gallery.
Ariel Mitnik, born, lives and works today in Chile, previously lived in Israel and studied at the Bezalel Academy of Art, is a virtuoso social painter who combines in his works - "The Guys' Paintings" - writing with political and behavioral criticism. Ariel embodies social critique and creates an experience with a witty humorous touch.
Mitnick's works, just like Dada's works, to some extent challenge the accepted and familiar in the conventional conventions of art. The original Dada works were created as an avant-garde language between the two world wars. The works in the current exhibition are on display at the heart of a period of world war in the Corona plague, a cosmopolitan phenomenon of acute significance, the results of which are still unknown. The fate of the little man in the face of natural crises and climate change in the face of the plagues of the plague, also from the socio-political aspects - all these created a new thought about the power and status of the small and lonely "I" in the face of nature's magical powers.
Ariel Mitnik's paintings create a deep empathy in the eyes of the viewer. These are ordinary character drawings, everyday people, troubled by problems of needing love and human touch, colorful people, longing for reference and social interaction. His diverse characters are familiar to each of us from the lives around us, they represent typical guys who inhabit the dramas of our lives. Mitnick recalls Dada artists George Gross and Otto Dix, through his sarcastic cartoonist paintings, he creates a sharp critique and brings to mind points of thought. In all his works he uses personal writing, sentences and complex words which he chisels through a personal handwriting that penetrates the heart. His Dadaist approach corresponds with the lyrical poetry that creates a meaningful composition through writing.
