An artist meets testimony - preservation of the memory of the Holocaust
Curator of the exhibition: Yossi Wassid, architect and artist, graduate of the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem and son of a Holocaust survivor mother.
"Days Out of Time - An Artist Meets Testimony": The first project of its kind by Beit Terezin and the artists Maya and Gal Raveh (developers and creators of the project).
The project brings together the survivors of the Theresienstadt ghetto and well-known artists, who turn their story into multidisciplinary works of art
The testimonies are a collection of monologues by Holocaust survivors. Through art in all its nuances, the artists, the third generation, give continuity and memory to the memories of the survivors and to the mental account they hold.
Among the leading artists: Geva Alon, Ido Marcus, Amit Kabsa and more.
The exhibition, which is being held for the first year at the Art & About Gallery in the Hefer Valley, is a joint initiative of the artists Maya and Gal Raveh and the Beit Terezin Museum (a foundation for the commemoration of the victims of the Terezin ghetto). The museum was founded by the Ghetto Survivors' Association in order to commemorate the memory of those who perished in the ghetto and to tell its story.
The exhibition will open to the general public on January 26, 2022 and will be on display until February 24, 2022 at the Art & About Gallery in the Hefer Valley.

"I have nothing to miss! No! You know that if you have nothing then you have nothing to miss. You now have to rebuild everything. Alone. You have to think how to once again thread the needle and start sewing." (Eva Arben)
'An Artist Meets a Testimony' is an art project that deals with the preservation of the memory of the Holocaust and brings together young Israeli artists with the testimonies of the survivors of the Theresienstadt ghetto. For about two years, Maya and Gal Raveh, artists and initiators of the project, collected the testimonies of the ghetto survivors and edited them into a strong and meaningful point-by-point experience. Artists from different fields, met the same experience and created, inspired by it, an artistic performance that captures the human spirit and life force of the survivors.
Among the twelve unique works of art, the exhibition will feature wood carvings, sound work, oil and charcoal paintings, sculptures, dance video work, musical work and more.
For the survivors participating in the venture who have opened their hearts to the artists (the oldest of whom is 98 years old), this project gives their story a new face, allowing future generations a glimpse from another, artistic angle.
Among the prominent artists taking part in the exhibition: Ido Marcus, Amit Kabsa, Geva Alon, Milli Barzilai, Shachar Sivan, Amir Sheft, Isabella Wolobnik, Eran Weber, Anat Magal, Aya Steigman, Moran Zilberberg, Noa Zamir and Rotem Amitsur.
Erela Ptolemy, Director of External Relations at Beit Terezin: "The stories of Holocaust survivors are inspiring, some have not shared their story to this day. "Designing the memory experience for future generations and thus continuing to deal with the history and heritage of the Jewish people in an alternative and relevant way for them."
The artwork pays homage to the surviving memories by reducing life in their story. The exhibition will be shown later throughout the country and in Europe, in order to allow a wide audience, as much as possible, to be exposed to the exhibits and to take an active part in preserving the memory of the Holocaust.
