Solo exhibition by Dan Birnbaum

Curated by Hagai Argov

reference

Dan Birenbaum presents a solo exhibition in the common living room of art, the name of which shows a place.

The collection of fabrics painted in acrylic colors in shades of black and white and a variety of grays. The paintings depict natural landscapes containing mainly sand dunes, shrubs, plants, crows, flowers and trees.

These are works that do not depict an urban or suburban landscape, do not deal with the human figure, or the memory of a patterned landscape and mostly do not depict the appearance of a specific place.

In "Mirror Place", Dan Birnbaum describes pieces of magical landscape, which are the essence of being in elusive nature. The vegetation, sand, and skyline change within a short time due to changing weather, climate and human intervention.

Sand dunes, wild shrubs, thorns, trees and flowers can migrate from place to place, take root and change the topography, the horizon, the paths, even the crows are not permanent residents in one territory.

The seemingly picturesque pieces of the landscape are reminiscent of wild landscapes seen by the first European settlers who came to America or Australia, or perhaps even to Israel before the establishment of the state? It seems correct to define the appearance of a place less as a socio-historical and historical political mention, but more as an archetypal template that attributes a deep poetic emotion to the environment.

The atmosphere, taste, spirit, temperature and rhythm of these paintings, give the display a romantic element of ancient landscapes, of geographical nostalgia, even a minor musical that conveys to the viewer a sense of emotional contentment mixed with existential optimism.
