Their work was created as part of a mental health project at the Hillel Yaffe Medical Center under the direction of Dr. Lydia Lerner. Dr. Lydia Lerner : "These talented artists do not have formal artistic education, the link between them is the fact that they are mentally ill. The artistic value of autodidactic works while hospitalized in psychiatric hospitals was discussed in the 1940s by the French painter and sculptor Jean Dubupe, who devoted his life to the discovery, collection and international publication of works of this kind, which he called ART BRUT - raw art . ART BRUT is fascinating in its ability to combine basic concepts such as art, culture and madness that raise the question of the relationship between the individual and the society in which he lives. Today, such works are exhibited in permanent and changing exhibitions around the world, and prominent representatives of the movement are highly appreciated. The works in the exhibition were created in a group framework of "Open Studio" in order to present them in public, a goal that stimulated a process of extraordinary artistic development for each of the artists. The subjects of the specific works and techniques used are the product of the authors' personal choice and are based on the ART AS THERAPY approach .
