Boris Leifer was born in Ukraine in 1946. From 1969 to 1975 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg. Petersburg, which has a connection to the traditional-European painting. He also worked as a stage painter in the Russian theater. Studies in the Academy of Art together with the design of the theater explain his tendency as an artist to create in his works compositions "staged"

In his solo exhibition, which opens in January, the Raanana Municipal Gallery will exhibit its own portraits, portraits of young and old people, still lifes and open landscapes. In these three types of art there are motifs attached to life and death.

In his portraits, Leifer attempts to preserve what can not be preserved - the elusive essence that constitutes human life, while at the same time a desperate gesture to recognize the end of life. These portraits are thus one of the artist's challenging ways to perpetuate the essence of that external and internal person, while at the same time challenging the passage of time.

The paintings of still life reflect the reality of everyday human existence: various vegetables, fruit baskets, mini dishes and kitchen utensils. The painting of these points to a high skill in their textural description, as well as an emphasis on the lighting that falls on them - to which the artist attaches great importance.

The observer of such paintings of Leifer takes a close-up approach, a view that creates a sense of intimacy with the objects described.

In a number of works, Leifer depicts monochrome colors in white tones, elegant utensils and hospitality, with eggs laid on their sides. The choice of white monochromatic intensifies the short lifespan and fade of these as "fade out".

Leifer's open landscapes also hint at the motifs of life and death: a lone tree in the landscape of the Dead Sea as a metaphor of life and growth despite the salty land of the "sea of death" and a desolate, desolate desert landscape with a donkey - a reference to the coming of the Messiah and the resurrection of the dead; To the three religions.

Among these contrasting types in the art of Boris Leifer - the human being who is alive, moving, mobile and temporary versus the object / object, the immobile and the stationary takes place some sort of process of change in which the object / object is "awakened to life".

Boris Leifer immigrated to Israel in the 1990s and lives in Ra'anana with his wife Nina. He dedicates all his life to painting and thus intends to continue until his death.
