Emanuel Zohar - The humor of frogs
Festive Opening:
Saturday 8.12.2018 at 20:00
In the Blue Bird Gallery
75 Rothschild st
Petah Tikva
Curator: Sara Raz Chairman of the Petach Tikva Artists Association

On one of my visits to an army retiree show, I met an artist who immediately projected specials - indeed, the Zohar burst forth from the image of Emanuel Zohar.
Before I related to his work, I met a man of values, whose experience of his multi-vertebrate life radiates from every word that comes out of his mouth. Refers with nostalgic feelings to his childhood in Petah Tikva. He tells the story of the wisdom of life he has acquired, in children's stories filled with parables and moral wisdom, while exploiting his artistic talents and creating a miniature animal kingdom. A realm in which he manages to convey important messages as an allegory of human life. He conveys his youthful experiences, and sees it as a creative possibility to tell his stories through small, sympathetic figures made of molten and tinned glass, illustrating human situations - experiences, journeys, loves, aspirations, disappointments and even pranks. Immanuel succeeds with great talent in taking hard materials, literally, in material and in episodes of life, and makes them sound flexible and make them flowing and soft.
In art it is sometimes customary to use the term " anthropomorphism " . Humanization is an act of attributing human qualities to something that is not human. Animals, objects and imaginary characters . Immanuel created the kingdom of frogs and not just chose the frog as the object of his work, he lavished on it in the best of his imagination.
In many cultures, the act of anthropomorphism of frogs was a sacred ritual. In Egyptian culture she reached the rank of idolatry when she was even a frog goddess. In the Greek mythology the frog is an important symbol of fertility and symbolizes the cycle of death and rebirth. In Asian culture, the frog is found as a symbol of luck, represented with silver, gold or coins in the mouth. The spirit of the frog Ching Wang Sheng is associated with healing and good fortune in business. In Indian culture, the frog stands as a powerful animal that leads to success, skill and changes in life. In the Amazon, there are several frogs and toads that produce toxic secretions to protect themselves from enemies. These discharges cause hallucinations in humans and are therefore an integral part of the rituals of the Indians and the shamans. Frog skin secretions are used in the pharmaceutical industry.
The frog has large fingers, smooth skin and large eyes. Therefore, it has some human qualities. Therefore, it is often associated with wisdom and spiritual vision.
In this exhibition you will find miniatures of animals: frogs, ants, turtles, owls, anthropomorphic characters, who do everything that humans do: sports, music, love, motorcycle riding. Humanized animals expressing feelings, relationships, and the wisdom of life. Emanuel, who nurtured children and youths from difficult backgrounds, began to melt metal and glass and give them a new meaning to the meaning of a life cycle. It creates small creatures like ants, which are subject to stronger trampling than they do, and it manages to get them to take off from the realm of handicrafts and make them art.
Emanuel has breathed sports spirit into the ports to strengthen them in the face of the ravages of life and he has created Olympic games. More than 1000 ants participate in one piece in which they serve as athletes, judges, and audience. The ants are coated with silver gold and black iron ants.
Emmanuel puts a soul in harsh materials, and his special approach to the children calls on the families to come to a unique experience that will not be forgotten soon.
The Petah Tikva Artists Association wishes Emmanuel, on his 81st birthday, a wealth of joy and enjoyment, and the continuation of a productive work.
We are proud to host such a wonderful work at the Blue Bird Gallery and are happy to bring Petach Tikvah to its hometown to receive it among our ranks as an important artist, and to provide an opportunity for an artistic audience to enjoy its work.
