Dvir Gallery is happy to invite you to the opening of Michal Budny's (Poland) solo show: Beginning Thursday, October 29th, 20:00 Hanagr 2 Jaffa Port The exhibition opens with the collaboration of the Polish Institute. The exhibition deals with the notion of ''Beginning'' in a broad sense, but first of all as a psychological category that underlies constant change and the necessity of thinking and working, and that the meaning of 'End' is imbedded in. By their form, works of art may borrow from the material aspects of life. However, their formality is meant to inspire reflection on time and space, doing so independently of specifically ascribed names and scenarios, to rely instead on intuition and feelings. A possible example would be that of a work that resembles bricks, but is actually made of lightweight paper. The exhibition's eponymous work, ''Beginning'', was born out of an idea of crisis in the psychological sense. It suggests a survival fight, but above all it gives a new insight on one's own experiences and beliefs, while considering the possibility of building a future with respect to the past, still incorporating an openness to diversity and novelty. By referring to the principles of scale and proportion, the work alludes to classical sculpture, but it also combines some technically risky maneuvers that are given to chance, while not relenting control altogether. Next to several smaller-scale works, the exhibition also features a large installation titled 'Preparations', which consists of three large square surfaces standing on bases. The surface's shape, position and arrangement in space could account for their function as holders of archival material, or merely as a hint to the presence of records or information. Those large, delicate surfaces seem susceptible to weather and other atmospheric conditions, such as the light, duration and location of the exhibition. This location can be understood as a temporary site of storage, a waiting room for the objects before they reach their final destination. This exhibition space, a spacious hangar in the Jaffa port, has a beginning and an end written into it. The magic bestowed by all its combined elements turns it into a mental space for reflection on a beginning and an end. It is therefore a natural extension of the exhibition and its themes. A further work included in the exhibition, titled ''Archive'', was previously shown at Art Basel. The exhibition closes: 12.12.09 Opening hours: Tues-Thurs 12:00-19:00 Fri-Sat 10:00-14:00
