A solo exhibition for Sam Rahman - The Light

The Rothschild Art Gallery is honored to present the first solo exhibition at the Sam Rahman Gallery.

Born in Jerusalem, Sam has been living in Paris for the past few years where he has been practicing old masters paintings in the Louvre for several years, with the aim of tracing ancient painting techniques.

For the exhibition "Following the Light" has a double meaning, as Sam tries to capture in his paintings the external light coming from the sun that has changed between Israel, France and Italy, the places where he often draws. On the other hand, the practice of painting "illuminates" his life and provides him with a spiritual inner light. He compares the importance of light in painting to the ability to listen to music. Without this ability, no sounds and noises are needed. Painting, too, has no meaning without light.

Some of the paintings deal with everyday life, such as the "poolside tea" painting. A scene that happened during Rachman's painting lessons in the south of France. The contrast between the direct sunlight and the darkness of the pool and the spectacular views all around made him stop everything and draw a premier coup-seize the moment. Later in the studio he painted a large painting of the same scene. Both paintings will be on display.

The painting "Yukaste Overdose" is a modern variation on the mythological story about Yokasta, the mother of Oedipus. The work focuses on the mother's tragedy and attempts to raise questions about her decisions.

Born in 1986, Sam Rahmin served in the Army as a Walnut Warrior, where he was wounded and then made a decision to devote his life to art. Attended a painting and drawing workshop under the guidance of Israel Hershberg, lived and painted for several years, and in 2015 lived in Paris. He has won several awards in Europe in recent years and his paintings have been sold to collectors around the world.

The gallery returns to its regular opening hours at 11am - 6:30 pm, Thursday and 11am - 2pm.
