"Proximity Search" The Binyamini , Tel Aviv November 19th, 2015 until January 2nd, 2016 Curators: Talia Tokatly and Roni Ben-Ari "Proximity Search" is an exhibition, which unites the art of pottery and that of photography and is a collaboration with the various museums in Israel. The combined art forms on display offer a challenging relationship between the two languages of art, new modes of observation and innovative connections. The encounter between the two different art forms - ceramics on the one hand and the creation of photographic images on the other ? is created through a mutual process. Names?? About thirty artists were asked to choose an archaeological item made of clay from one of the museums in Israel. This item served as a source of inspiration for creating a new ceramics work of art which is charged with an original meaning and interpretation. The next stage in the art process was introducing leading art-photographers who responded to the ceramics pieces of art, by creating their own image. In "Proximity Search" the viewer is invited to take in both the ceramics and the photographs. The space of the exhibition exposes different stages of the creative process. The beholders may experience themselves as mediators, thus creating their own connections as well as contemplating the motives of the curators in their mediations. The encounters between the artists allow for a personal acquaintance, mutual exposure and collaboration that highlights manners of observation and contributes to enrichening the two forms of art. (The collaboration did not include joint action or a documentation of the artistic process). Working with clay requires long hours of physical contact, following a separation in which the work of art is put in the oven for many hours, and there its characteristics modify. The photographic process on the other hand occurs by capturing a single defining moment in a sequence of visibility, it uproots the concept and illuminates what escapes the eye. Modern technology assists in this creation. Talia Tokatly is a multidisciplinary artist. Pottery is her mother tongue. Her works have been displayed both in solo exhibitions and in groups in galleries, museums and in private collections in Israel and around the world.
