Points of Departure / The Jerusalem Artists Houseטלפון - 02-6253653 31/08/2013 to - 12/10/2013 Anne Sassoon's exhibition reveals the photographic references which serve as points of departure for her creative process; a diverse collection of images from the local and Jewish history, film stills and Jerusalem street art - all as one kick start her imagination. The uncertainty which characterize Sassoon's creative process is prominent in the final artistic outcomes: an ambiguous sense of displacement and detachment, and even loneliness. The characters seem to be on the move, or at a turning point, like they are about to embark on a journey to the unknown; perhaps a remnant of Sassoon's upbringing in apartheid South Africa. Born in Wales, Sassoon was a figurative painter in Johannesburg during the apartheid era, and later in London. Since moving to Jerusalem in 1997, she has exhibited in London, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Berlin and New York.
